The Waterside Art Group are a diverse gathering of local artists who all appreciate the opportunity to meet together to share skills and knowledge, and develope their abilties and techniques at weekly meetings.

We call on a wide range of styles and abilities to enrich our participation and enjoyment of all aspects of art. Hence amongst our number are professional and semi-professional artists, as well as complete beginners who are keen to learn and develope.

We feel that sitting down together on a weekly basis, and painting and drawing in a wide range of styles and techniques, and across a full spectrum of media, enhances our understanding of art and broadens our participation. We have no formal teaching during the meetings, but pool our experience, and lend support and advice to each other based on individual achievement.

We have a demonstration evening once a month, to bring in new skills and techniques to the group, and we also organise life-drawing workshops, in which the more experienced life artists will share their insights into this most challenging discipline.

We also organise a still-life session at one of the monthly meetings, which members can try their hand at if they wish. From time to time we arrange a paint-out day to encourage members to enjoy the 'en plein aire' approach to painting and drawing on location as a group.

We organise and promote several exhibitions of our members work during the year, and encourage members to exhibit their pieces as a good stimulus to their creative calendar.

Above all, we enjoy a friendly and open community, in which there is no such thing as bad art, and gentle criticism is offered only as a means to hone our skills. We manage to enjoy social evenings around major holidays, and preview evenings at the exhibitions.

Membership is £13.00 per annum, which includes membership of the Community Centre. Membership numbers are limited to 55 in total, to avoid overcrowding in the hall. A waiting list has been established, and prospective members should apply to the membership secretary. Visitors are welcome to come along to the demonstration evenings, but there will be an admission fee of £2.00 for non-members.
